About Aetens

Advancing Educational Intelligence

Aetens is a research-driven educational organization dedicated to advancing educational intelligence: the human capacity to make thoughtful, evidence-informed decisions that improve teaching and learning. Through research, educational frameworks, professional learning, publications, and human-centered technology, Aetens helps educators deepen inquiry, strengthen professional judgment, and design more purposeful learning.

PJ Scanlon

PJ Scanlon is an educator, writer, and founder of Aetens. His experience spans secondary and higher education, with work focused on writing, assignment design, educational judgment, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence in teaching and learning.

Aetens grew from a central question: How can educators be better supported in making the thoughtful decisions that shape learning? That question guides the organization’s research, frameworks, learning experiences, and educational technologies.

Research & Insights

Educational Frameworks

Developing practical frameworks that support inquiry, reflection, and professional judgment.

Professional Learning

Creating resources and learning experiences that support educator growth and purposeful practice.

Human-Centered Technology

Our Current Work

The Assignment Design Coach is the first public Aetens pilot. It guides educators through a reflective conversation about assignment purpose, student thinking, evidence of learning, and the thoughtful use of AI. Educator feedback from the pilot will guide its continued development and contribute to Aetens research.
